Prosecutors strike a plea bargain with a Lubbock man who beat and stabbed his roommate to death back in February. Today in court, 36-year-old Brodrick Miller plead guilty to the murder and got 40 years in prison.  On February 20th, police found his roommate, Rodney Collins, lying dead in a pool of blood on their bathroom floor.

Assistant District Attorney Tray Payne says an exact motive is still unclear. All they know is Miller and Collins had a close relationship and an argument got out of control.  He says some may hear about the plea bargain and think 40 years isn't long enough for a murderer, but he says, avoiding a trial was the right thing to do in this case.

"We know that the family felt very comfortable with this and they didn't want to go through the trial so, there's a lot of factors that go into this.   It's not just, does he deserve life , I mean yes, he does and do I think he got life in this case, sure I do," Payne says.

Payne says he is confident Miller will never get out on parole so, that's why he says this is actually a life sentence for Miller.  He says Miller showed no remorse in the courtroom.
