The suspect in Thursday's triple stabbing, Ruben Garcia, has a long list of previous convictions.

His most recent: being booked in the Lubbock County Jail for domestic violence. Counselors call domestic violence a gate-way crime to other offenses like sexual assault and murder, and say if offenders don't get professional help, they'll re-offend.

"Look at your group of friends. Look at the people you surround yourself with. Are they violent? Do they exert that violence over women and children? And if so, we're really saying you need to push yourself away because that violence could spill over onto you as well," says Roy Rios with Women's Protective Services.

Thursday starts Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For more information you can visit the website for Lubbock's Women's Protective Services at wpslbk.org.
