A fire in lorenzo has taken the life of a retired school teacher.

Fire crews were called to 110 North Van Buren Street in Lorenzo around 9:30 AM.  They had the fire under control in about two hours, but sadly they were too late to save 61-year old Rita Crelia.

Crelia taught special education at Lorenzo schools for more than a decade.

Many of her former co-workers were too broken up about the incident to speak on camera.  But one fellow teacher and neighbor says she will be missed.

"She's a really good person. She cared about her students and so on, and, she really put her life into it," said Felix Martinez.

"Losing her is a big loss. It really is."
