What's Wrong with Taylor Potts?

Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts may still be on the shelf for Saturday's homecoming game against Kansas State. The reason is a concussion suffered during the New Mexico game. A concussion happens when the brain moves around inside the skull after a sudden impact. The injury is especially common in football because of the increasing speed and size of the players. Concussions can result in confusion, nausea, and blurred vision in the short term. In the long term, they can cause memory loss, chronic headaches, and a loss of coordination. Nancy Carlton of Frenship ISD says concussions are common with younger players, too. She says parents need to be vigilant. "I think the big thing is I want parents to pay attention to what their kids say when they come home. 'I got hit.' You know. 'I have a headache', or 'I'm nauseated', or 'I have ringing in my ears', you know, 'I have blurry vision.' Listen to them and make sure that it wasn't something that they already had or they're sick or something. But if it was from an acutal injury in football to let someone know," Carlton said.
