GETFITLUBBOCK22007-11-15-1195183838.jpg"Of the 10 most obese cities, we have 5 of the 10 in Texas, so we have work to do here," says Dr. Paula Grammas of the Garrison Institute on Aging. That's what motivated her to issue the call for Lubbock to focus on fitness with a 12 week team challenge: "We wanna put Lubbock on the map as one of the healthy cities in Texas." And it looks like Lubbockites have answered that call loud and clear with 145 teams. Says Annette Boles of the institute, "I actually have the totals for how many hours you guys have exercised: 29,225 hours." 1200 people, over 29,000 hours of exercise, and guess how many pounds they've dropped....4400 pounds so far! A staggering number when you remember, there's still a few weeks left to shed those sizes. Carlota Reigner and Johnna Jenkins are just a few of the people who have joined the charge to get fit! Says Jenkins, "It's been neat to be a part of a bigger movement so to speak, of losing weight and exercise." And Reigner is excited to fit into new clothes after dropping 31 pounds herself! The goal is a healthier and happier Hub City that won't forget fitness in the future.
