Folks in lubbock in favor of the public option for health care held a demonstration outside of sentaor john cornyn's office this afternoon.

About 30 people gathered at the Wells Fargo building where Cornyn's Lubbock office is located.

Participants in the rally said they were disappointed with how much money Cornyn has accepted from private health insurance companies and HMOs.

At the end of the rally, the demonstrators presented Cornyn with a novelty check worth over $600,000, the amount these groups have contributed to his campaigns over the years.

Organizer Lane Powell says this should serve as notice to the senator.

"We feel like it's urgent. And we need his support, not him saying no one more time to something that is not really a partisan issue," Powell said.

Senator Cornyn's office responded today saying the protestors are from the extreme left wing of politics.  A statement from his office says he must represent all texans, The overwhelming majority of which do not support the public option, according to the statement.
