Denver City Police cancelled their Amber Alert on a three year-old boy only to now expand the search nationwide.

Corporal John Gonzales with the Lubbock Department of Public Safety says even though it's a national program, Amber Alerts focus on regional searches. So with police now calling young Mitchell Romero a missing person, they can get more help to expand the search nationwide. Police still believe Mitchell is with his father Mario, making this abduction unique.

"They're still looking for the child, so that's the objective behind the whole Amber Alert, Missing Person. Obviously we're missing a child. Again we have a parent involved and you have a crime that's been committed so these are the things the agency has to look at and weigh," says Cpl. Gonzales.

Mario Romero is still wanted by police for questioning in his wife's murder. He was last seen driving a maroon Yukon with Texas license plates 43WFX6. If you know something about this case, or about his son Mitchell, call Denver City Police at (806) 592-3516.
