A Lubbock jury ruled yesterday that a police officer was not guilty of excessive force when he tased a man in 2006.
Officers at the LPD and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office have many items at their disposal to protect themselves.
The taser is in a class called 'less lethal force. Less lethal includes bean bag projectiles, rubber bullets, pepper spray, and other means that will not kill an individual but will stop him in his tracks.
Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe says the goal is to avoid deadly force.
"Our mission, law enforcement's mission, the sheriff's office's mission in particular is to resolve anything and everything as peascefully as we can," Rowe said.
