An elderly Lubbock couple is scammed by roofers, and wants to warn all of you what to watch out for.

Ray Cox says a guy knocked on his door offering to fix his damaged roof. When the new roof was on, the workers left without cleaning up and without doing a proper job. Fifty mile-per-hour winds tore off that shoddy roof in the spring. And Cox had no money, and no way to find the original roofers. The good folks at Aaron Russ Construction stepped in, and have volunteered to fix Cox's roof for free.

"They began to pull up whole sheets of the roof there and there was nothing holding it. They just pulled it up without even having to use the handle or prybar to pull the shingles loose so it's just unbelieveable," says homeowner Ray Cox.

If you do hire someone to work on your roof, make sure they're licensed, insured, and have a proper permit. You can do that by calling the City of Lubbock's Building Inspections Department.
