A Lubbock man becomes the victim of an internet scam, and now he's out $2,000.

A Nigerian woman contacted the man asking if she could ship him a ring. He was to sell it and send her the profits. What he didn't know was that the woman sent the real owner of the ring a fake PayPal reciept, which she never payed for. The ring was then considered a stolen good. Lubbock police say beware of who you meet online.

"You got to watch who you meet on the internet because there's a lot of people out there running these scams and they'll try to befriend you and then take advantage of you when you least expect it," says Sgt. Mark Watkins with Lubbock PD's Property Crimes Department.

The ring was returned to the original seller, but the Lubbock man had to pay the jeweler back and ended up losing $2,000 of his own money. No charges are filed at this time against that Lubbock man for selling a stolen ring.
