Santaland is a family attraction that has been a tradition in Lubbock for 51 years.
Montford Unit officers say the inmates selected for the work squad are non-violent offenders that will be released soon.
"This is good way for them to pay the communities back," said Officer Keith Moore.
Moore also said for some inmates this is the only work experience some of them ever have.
Talking to the inmates, some said they felt working on county and city projects has taught them skills that they hope will help them get a job.
Both Moore and the inmates agree, the time working helps the wait for freedom go by a little quicker.
