There's only two weeks left in Lubbock's United Way Annual Campaign. The goal is to raise $5.3 million for more than 23 agencies United Way supports. One of those is Legal Aid of North West Texas. They provide free legal services to more than 1.5 million low income families in 113 counties. Amy Haney sought their help when she needed a restraining order against an abusive husband. Timothy Haney is now serving a life prison sentence after stabbing Amy in October 2007. Amy said the folks at Legal Aid gave her help when she needed it most.
"We've done pretty good. I've decided we've got a second chance and I'm trying to make the best of it and I've started going back to school, started college. This is my first semester," said Amy Haney, a domestic abuse survivor.
Amy is studying to become a para legal and hopes to go to law school one day.
