And for local veterans, today's memorial held special meaning. We caught up with some who gathered to watch, and reflect, on their time in the service.

For those who lost loved ones in Fort Hood, today's memorial service was deeply emotional. For some of our local veterans, the feeling is the same -- even if not personal, it's an emotional loss within the military.

We caught up with some folks group at Carillon Senior Life Care Community, the six of them gathered in front of the TV's this afternoon, watching the memorial service at Fort Hood, and paying their respects. Because, as one of these retired soldiers put it, "Once you're in the Army, there's always a little part of the Army in you."

Definitely an emotional event for these soldiers -- a few Army men, one Air Force -- all sad to see such a tragedy unfold, but all hoping it never happens again.

Lt. Col. Ray Adrean, Retired Army Soldier: "It's certainly a warning we should be very careful in our selection of our officers and all the troops that are working with other men. We should be sure that we don't have some wierd people doing it."

Capt. Pat Thurman, Retired Army Soldier: "My sympathy goes out to each one of them and i wish there was more that we could do for them."

Sgt. Bog Slagle, Retired Army Soldier: "I'm sorry it happened, but you've got to go on. You've got to go on from here."

Of course this memorial service coming right before Veterans Day, the men we talked to today say they plan to be a part of a special ceremony at Carillon tomorrow, where Representative Carl Isett will be speaking.
