When you're faced with an emergency, every second counts.
So do you know how long it takes for first responders to get to your house?
The city-wide response time average for Lubbock Fire Department is about 4 minutes.
EMS responds well below their goal of 6 minutes, with an average of 4.8 minutes.
Of course, those numbers vary slightly based on which part of Lubbock you live in, but Garett Nelson with the Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office says it's a balance between population and station location that helps keep these response times down.
"It's interesting that if you look at those averages, it still stays around that four minute response time and so the planning works, is really what that shows. What that shows is that the methods we use to plan for fire stations, works," Nelson says.
On average, Fire Station 8 records the highest number of runs, with close to 3,000 each year.
That station is located at 50th and Avenue U.
