Pearly Whites Shine after Free Dental Work

People flooded the Civic Center Saturday all to get free dental services from dentists across Texas. However, not everyone made it into the building. By 10 a.m. volunteers with the Texas Mission of Mercy said they couldn't take any more patients and had to turn away nearly 200 people. But for the 1,100 who did get a chance to sit in the dentist's chair, whether it was for a simple cleaning or even a new tooth, the cost was free! Depending on the type of service a patient saved anywhere from $400 to $1,500; all thanks to dentists who felt the community's needs were more important than a pay check.
"We're here at six in the morning we leave 6:30 at night sometimes and you sleep really well I will say that because it's really tiring, but the lookes on the faces of the people that you helped and the things that you're doing for them, I mean there's no money in the world that can buy that," said Dr. Craig Anderson, a general dentist from Houston.
The next free dental clinic will be held in Tyler, Texas on March 26th and 27th, 2010.
