Tech Baseball Falls To Rice, 5-1

HOUSTON - The Texas Tech baseball team opened play in the Houston College Classic with a loss to No. 4 Rice, 5-1, at Minute Maid Park. The loss was the first for the Red Raiders (3-1). Rice took the lead in the fourth inning when they scored two runs on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. Tech would cut the lead to one in the sixth when Joey Callender scored on a double hit by Matt Smith. Rice would answer later in the inning with a two-run home run. Josh Tomlin (1-1) took the loss for the Red Raiders. Tech continues play in the Houston College Classic against No. 12 Tulane Saturday at noon at Minute Maid Park.
