A 'hot check raid' Tuesday in Lubbock sent dozens downtown in handcuffs to pay off their debt. The District Attorney's office began the 'hot check round-up' around six Tuesday evening and it lasted well into the night. Their goal is to help some local merchants get their money back, and to teach hot check writers that it's not okay. District attorney Matt Powell says they are not out to arrest people who are struggling financially and those arrested have had ample opportunity to pay up. Now they have only three options, pay what they owe in full, set up a payment plan, or spend some time behind bars. And the DA's office isn't finished yet. If you or someone you know has written a bad check, don't think you're off the hook. They send officers out every week in search of hot check writers.
