Watering in Winter

Leaving sprinklers on creates icy conditions.
City officials say it can result in injury and death for drivers and pedestrians.
People caught leaving their sprinkler systems on during below freezing temperatures can face serious fines.
Gaylyn Chapman from City Public Works says you can water your lawn during the winter, just don't over over water it and not when it's freezing.
"Observe your sprinkler system," says Chapman. "That's probably one of our biggest issues. If you just go out and look at your sprinkler, is it running off on to the street? And if it is, then there is probably a timing issue. It's just simply running too long for the grass to absorb the amount of water it needs."
If you have a problem with a neighbor using their sprinkler system, you should call Code Enforcement at 775-2126.
