Local Man Shares Story of Tiger Mauling

The tiger attack at the San Francisco zoo on Christmas Day still has the nation talking.  However, that story may mean much more to one Lubbock County man; who survived a violent tiger attack about ten years ago.

Gene Light was attacked by his own 700 pound Bengal tiger almost ten years ago.  Witnesses say the tiger pinned Gene down and had his head in its mouth; crushing his skull.  Luckily Gene survived.

"No, I think about it a lot.  Every time you're still sore, your muscles are messed up.  And whenever you get to work and stuff, you feel all the pains and you remember what it's cause from,” says Gene.

Originally, Gene said he had permits for three remaining tigers.  However, Gene says he has found new homes for all of his tigers.

"I just loved raising them.  They were always real sweet.  Every one I had ever raised, I wasn't afraid of them at all.  I have never had a scratch by one that I've raised.  But, the one that got me, of course, I didn't raise,” says Gene.
