As relief efforts continue charities are asking for money rather than supplies, which are difficult to get into Haiti.  Here at home, one local business is taking to the check-out line to help out.  United Supermarkets is joining the effort to save Haiti and they're making it easy for their customers to help too.  All folks have to do is buy some groceries.  Beginning Sunday, Jan. 17th, customers at any United location can make a donation during checkout to help the victims of Haiti's earthquake.  Simply tell the cashier you'd like to add one dollar or more to your bill.  All monies raised through the effort will then be distributed equally to three local non-profit agencies, the American Red Cross, Breedlove Dehydrated Foods and the Salvation Army, which are serving the needs of the victims of Haiti.  United also promises to match the first $25,000 in donations.

"It's a tragedy and the sad reality is that there's just not an infrastructure in place for survivors to be able to handle all the devastation and that's why countries like the United States step up to the place and do what they do and that's what our country is all about and we're just thrilled that Lubbock is going to be a part of it," said Eddie Owens, Director of Corporate Communications for United Supermarkets.

If you'd like to help, United will be accepting donations beginning tomorrow January 17th through January 31st.
