A West Texas ranch owner is now struggling with the state to get new rules passed to protect his buffalo.

QB Ranch Owner Wayne Kirk owns about 22,000 acres an hour and a half east of Lubbock. He says a neighboring ranch hand shot almost half of his 120 buffalo a few weeks ago when they roamed off Kirk's property. Those buffalo have been left to rot and animals are now picking their skeletons apart. Kirk's now talking to KAMC, telling us he's taking legal action against his neighbors.

"They're not like a rattlesnake where you should just be able to go shoot them. They're not endangering anybody. They're a wonderful animal, and right now we need to get some legislation in Texas that produces that that can give us protection for these type animals," says Kirk.

Those 51 dead buffalo were worth more than a quarter of a million dollars.
