The U.S. Border Patrol held a recruiting event in Lubbock on Friday, hoping to step-up border security with new officers.

Recruiters were busy all day, speaking to prospective agents at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.  The event included information, a chance for people to fill out applications, and an opportunity to take a practice test; which was similar to the test prospective agents would take, if the agency is interested.  Current agents say having new agents out there in the field is crucial.

"With our transition into the Department of Homeland Security, with our new national strategy, we have a much more focused effort on trying to gain control of our border.  And, because of that, Washington, and our leadership, has realized that we need more personnel, and we need to put those people on the ground as fast and quickly as possible,” says Robert Green, Resident Agent in Charge of the Amarillo, Texas Substation

This is all part of a national recruiting effort.
