The National Weather Service presented Texas Tech officials with a StormReady Certification Wednesday.

The certification is given to cities, towns, and governments with well-managed, emergency communication systems.  Texas Tech is one of 23 universities to also get the certification.

To qualify, a school must have a variety of ways to send out severe weather information. They must also have preparedness plans and an emergency operation center.

Texas Tech already had the StormReady requirements in place; including tornado sirens and a new text message alert system.
