Final Score: (12) Texas 73, Texas Tech 47
Austin, TX (Sports Network) - D.J. Augustin notched a game-high 19 points as 12th-ranked Texas rolled through Texas Tech, 73-47, at the Erwin Center.
A.J. Abrams netted 17 points for the Longhorns (16-3, 3-1 Big 12), who have won three games in succession and five of six. Damion James added eight points and eight rebounds for the victors.
Mike Singletary provided 11 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Red Raiders (11-8, 2-3), who posted a season-low 16 points in the first half en route to losing for the third time in five games. John Roberson had 10 points in defeat.
In the early going, both teams shot the ball poorly and found themselves evenly matched. Justin Mason's turnaround lay-in with 4:17 left in the first half gave Texas its biggest lead to that point, 17-11, and after a Martin Zeno three the next trip down the court, the Longhorns finished with an 11-2 run to go up 28-16 at intermission
Texas extended its lead to 18, 42-24 as Abrams sank a three a little more than 4 1/2 minutes into the second half, then upped the advantage to 20 when Augustin hit a slicing layup with 7:45 played.
Bobby Knight's charges were overwhelmed late, as Texas finished the contest on a 10-3 run. When Harrison Smith drained a three-pointer with under 30 seconds to go, the Longhorns had their largest lead of the game, 26 points, and locked up the win by that same margin.
