DOWNTOWNLUBBOCK22008-02-05-1202270695.jpgThe downtown redevelopment commission unveiled it proposed plan to revitalize dowtown Lubbock on Tuesday. They presented their plan to the city council as well as hundreds of Lubbock citizens in attendance. Over the last two years the city-appointed commission held three public hearing and heard from hundreds of Lubbock citizens on what they wanted for downtown.

The final proposed plan will take 12 years to complete. It includes a multi-purpose arena, a new two block park, a movie theater, a collegiate hall of fame, and townhomes and condominiums with ground floor shops. The commission proposed to have seven districts, the Arts and Convention District, the Central Business District, the Depot Entertainment District, the Residential District, the Gateway Retail District, the Destination Retail District, and the Transition District. All seven would fall within the boundaries of 4th street, 19th street, Interstate 27, and Avenue Q.

The proposed plan would bring nearly 18,000 jobs to the Hub City over the 12 year period. Right now, no dollar amount has been attached to this project. But the Commission says it will be depending on private, public, and civic funding for the project.
