Doctors say we've been having a pretty active flu season this year, but they say there are some things you can do to prevent spreading those germs.

Doctors say washing your hands is very important, but having those antibacterial hand wipes and gels are still highly effective.  Doctors also say you should cover your mouth when you cough.  Third, they say you should stay away from people who are already sick to reduce your risk of coming down with something yourself.

"Prevention of the flu is tough.  This year's viral strain changed quite a bit from last year's.  So, it's kind of new to our immune system.  So, a lot of people who don't usually get sick are getting sick,” says Dr. David Long of the Lakeridge Primary Health Center.

Doctors say since the viral strain changed, some who got the flu shot may get sick.  But they say you should still get your flu shot.  It can help protect you from the other strains of flu going around.
