Lubbock is celebrating its centennial this year.  So KAMC 28 is bringing you a glimpse of the many memorable decades that brought us all the way up to 2008.

The 1950’s was a decade that many describe as a the decade of rock n' roll and a time when a teenager was meant to be a teenager.  And a decade when Elvis and Buddy Holly were big names right here in Lubbock.

"The biggest memory I have from my high school days was I was the teen manager at the roller rink, which was Lawson's Roller Rink, but on Friday and Saturday nights it became the youth center.  I was the teen manager and I was there the first night that Buddy Holly sang rock n' roll,” says Larry Byers, Program Director at KRBL Radio in Lubbock.

"America was happy then.  And we didn't worry about locking our door,” says Peggy Sue Gerron, friend of Buddy Holly.
