Lubbock's 100th birthday celebration has officially started!  The opening ceremonies for the year-long party kicked off at the City Bank coliseum 5:00 Sunday evening.  The fun started outside in the parking lot where party-goers saw firsthand how folks used to get around Lubbock in the 50's and they also got an up-close look at how farming equipment has changed over the past century.  At 7:00, the crowd moved inside for the ceremony and concert. Mac Davis, the Joe Ely band, broadway singer David Gaschen, Kenny Maines, and other special guests wowed folks with performances on a multi-leveled stage.  The concert was done in the round and the crowd was able to catch all the action on four giant screens.  The screens also showed four different video montages about Lubbock's 100 years as a city.  The thousands who attended say it was a party like no other.
Now, this was just the opening ceremony for what is a year-long celebration.  The Centennial Committee has dozens of other fun events planned over the next 12 months leading up to March 16, 2009 when Lubbock officially turns 100 years old.
