University Medical Center’s burn unit received a donation from a survivor of the September 11th terrorist attack on the Pentagon.  Retired Lieutenant Colonel Brian Birdwell presented a $5,000 check to the staff at the Timothy J. Harner Burn Center Wednesday afternoon.

Birdwell suffered burns over about 60% of his body after the attack on the Pentagon.  Since then, he formed Face the Fire Ministries.  The Ministry gives money to burn victims and burn units like the one at UMC.

UMC officials say this money will help further outreach programs; which they hope will help educate families before they become burn victims.
