The race for mayor heats up in Lubbock.  Mayor David Miller called a press conference Monday.  At the conference, Mayor Miller spoke about Tom Martin’s mistakes that led to the city’s lawsuit against American Administrative Group.  A.A.G. is the former third party administrator for the city’s health benefits.

Miller says Lubbock spent about $45 million on health claim expenses from 2004 to 2006.  Mayor Miller says that could have been avoided if not for Martin’s decisions while serving on the City Council at the time.

As you know, Tom Martin is David Miller’s opponent in the upcoming mayoral race.

"If he was not a candidate for mayor, I would let bygones be bygones because we corrected the situation.  What I don't want the citizens to do is return him to office not knowing these bad business decisions that were made.  If they return him to office after they already know it, then that's their freedom to do so,” says Mayor David Miller.

"Mayor Miller is apparently trying to divert our attention form the many mistakes he has made in the past two years.  Now in his attempt to get re-elected he is blaming others for the health insurance litigation,” says Lubbock Mayoral Candidate Tom Martin.

Mayor Miller says because of this health insurance issue, property taxes went up about two cents in Lubbock.

Early voting begins April 28th.
