SIGNSTEALING-VO2008-04-08-1207709833.jpgEvery election year there are campaign signs, and every election year there are sign thieves.

This year, some Lubbock City Council candidates say they are sick of it.

"We lost 25 Sunday evening," said Council District 4 candidate Paul Beane, "and I've decided to offer a $500 reward for anyone that can provide information that will lead to the stoppage of this sign stealing."

Beane said he believes kids are probably stealing the signs for kicks, and he does not think there are any political motives behind the thefts.

Beane's opponents, Tom Keisling and Jerry Bell, have also reported campaign sign thefts.

Beane said the money and time involved int he signs is not the issue, it's the hampering of people's freedom to support whichever candidate they wish.
