Cotton Kings Fall to Corpus Christi

Lubbock, Texas - The Corpus Christi Rayz swept the three-game season series with a 3-1 win over the Lubbock Cotton Kings Friday night to extend their win streak to a franchise-tying six games, and push Lubbock to a four-game home winless streak. The first period saw 39 shots on goal between the two squads, with Lubbock out-shooting Corpus Christi 23-16. Rayz netminder Ron Vogels 23 saves is a season-high for a Cotton King opponent in an individual period. At 7:14 of the second period, Anders Strome fired a laser from outside the right circle past Vogel for the 1-0 lead. Stromes goal is his team leading 19th for the 2006-2007 season. Corpus Christi answered back with a power play tally off a breakaway from Kevin Watters at 10:28 of the middle frame. In the third perio,d Corpus Christis Jason Baird gave his squad the 2-1 lead as he slipped the puck past Lubbock goaltender Kyle Stanton 5:27 into the period. The Rayz put the game out of reach with an empty-netter from Justin Quenneville with 11 seconds remaining in the contest. Cotton King Stanton had 36 saves in net in the loss, while Rayz Vogel made 48 stops in the win. Stantons winless streak extends to ten games. Lubbock out-shot the Coastal Bend team 48-39. Lubbock will head out on the road for a 7:35 p.m. tilt with the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night, and will return home for a 5:00 p.m. face-off with Tulsa Sunday evening.
