South Plains Mall employees are petitioning the mall's parking policy. Mall policy calls for employees to park on the outer rim of the parking lots. Mall officials say the policy has always been in place, but they stepped up enforcement because customers were complaining about a lack of parking spaces.
“The women that walk out late at night, people that have $5,000-$10,000 in deposits, and they don't bank here in the mall, they're walking out with it at at night,” says Sean Clayton, a South Plains Mall employee and petitioner.
"That is something we've always told our stores that they can do. Whether they're coming or going, if they need a security escort, we can definitely accommodate them and help them in case they are uncomfortable,” says Beth Bridges of the South Plains Mall.
Bridges says malls across the country have similar policies; and, for now, the parking rules will not change.
