There are only two African-American officers on the entire Lubbock police force and one city councilmember wants to change that.

District 2 councilman Floyd Price says there are too few minorities at the police department.

He believes the makeup up the force should be representative of the city, which is about 56% white, 32% Hispanic, and 9% black.

Right now, the force is about 76% white, 20% Hispanic, and less than 1% black.

The police force is about to begin recruiting a new class, so Price has taken up the issue at city hall, and Lee Ann Dumbauld says she working with the Police Department to raise those numbers.

The police department will begin accepting applications for the next class starting Monday.

If you are interested in becoming one of Lubbock's finest, you can pick up an application at either the Lubbock Police Department, City Hall, or the police academy.
