The win by the Red Raiders (21-24;
6-14) evens this three-game series against
Texas Tech answered the OU run in the bottom half of the inning as Wilie Rueda scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Richburg. Rueda led off the frame with a walk, stole second and then moved to third on a single by Doug Thennis.
The Sooners regained the lead in the top of the third on another RBI by Mike Gosse. Gosse laced a single to center that scored Johnson who reached on a one-out hit.
Trailing by a run with two runners on in the bottom of the sixth, Tech head coach Larry Hays turned to pinch hitter Logan Leslie in replacement of Taylor Ashby hoping that the freshman could get a two-out rally going for the Red Raiders. As he has done several times this season as a pinch hitter, Leslie came through in the clutch as he laced a two-RBI single to the gap in right center that gave the Red Raiders a 3-2 lead. Sophomore shortstop Chris Hall gave Tech a 4-2 lead as he dropped an RBI double down the left field line that scored Leslie from second. Rueda closed out the scoring and gave Tech a 5-2 lead when he placed an RBI single in left field that scored Hall from second.
In the bottom of the eighth, senior first baseman Jason Seefeld gave the Red Raiders a four-run cushion as he blasted a solo home run over the left field wall. The home run was his ninth of the season.
The afternoon belonged to freshman right-hander Chad Bettis as he improved to 4-3 on the season by logging a career-high seven innings of work. He allowed just two runs on six hits and struckout two. James Leverton picked up his first save of the season and just the second of his career as he tossed the final two scoreless innings allowing just one hit and struckout two.
