ETHANOLCORN-VO2008-04-28-1209435441.jpgGovernor Rick Perry is asking the EPA to cut the mandatory ethanol production by half in an effort to lower the cost of corn.

Rising corn prices have driven price hikes at grocery stores, but Texas Corn Growers officials say there is an even bigger culprit.

David Gibson of Texas Corn Growers says high fuel and energy costs are what should be looked at.

Gibson says ethanol is partially responsible for keeping gas prices down and in turn keeping slowing down food prices.

He believes that a drop in ethanol will mean more reliance on foreign oil and greater sticker shock at the grocery store.
