A state-wide manhunt is on for the man suspected of gunning down a Texas State Trooper Tuesday night in East Texas. Meanwhile, the death of the fellow officer hits home for our troopers here on the South Plains.

Flags fly at half staff at Lubbock DPS as one more name is added to their wall of honor. It's a tribute to the Texas men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty. Trooper James Burns will be the 83rd name added to the wall.

Troopers say
37-year-old Brandon Robertson shot the east texas trooper following a high speed chase Tuesday night. Trooper Burns pulled Robertson over for a routine traffic stop. Robertson sped off leading the Trooper on a chase. After nearly a mile, Robertson pulled over, got out of his car, and opened fire. He shot Trooper Burns four times before he was able to get out of the car.

Corporal John Gonzales with Lubbock DPS says its a tragedy that hits home for every man and woman in uniform.
"Its something we think about every time we put this uniform on. It's a high risk job", says Gonzales, "these people will be remembered and their legacy will be remembered as far as the people that continue to do this job."

Again, the person that is believed to have killed Trooper Burns is still at large. The suspect is Brandon Wayne Robertson of Tyler, Texas. DPS believe he was in a blue Dodge Intrepid. The licence plate number on that car is 039LCG. If you have any information about this suspect you are asked to call 911.
