Lubbock's Preston Smith International Airport was in chaos this morning as emergency personnel simulated the crash of a 727 airplane.

This drill helps police, EMS, fire officials and airport operations prepare for the worst.

Firefighters extinguished the fire.

Together with EMS, they attempted to rescue all the passengers while police secured the scene.

Several volunteers and dummies were inside another plane, waiting to be saved.

Officials say this is an important exercise, and they're pleased with the way it turned out.

"Hopefully this will never happen in Lubbock, but we'll be prepared in the case that it ever does."

Emergency personnel go through this drill once every three years in accordance with federal aviation requirements.
