Cold Case Nearly Solved

Investigators have some leads in a the twenty-one year-old murder of Lubbock teen Veronica Taylor.
On March 26th, 1987, Taylor's body was discovered in a snow-covered field with a pair of panties tied around her neck.
In her backpack, investigators found an eraser and a box of Milk Duds.
Sue Bounds, who was the principal of Murfee Elementary, remembers that day well.
"We were devastated," said Bounds.
"Everyone was. We were just so upset."
Bounds spoke at Taylor's funeral.
"I think she would still be industrious. She was a very hard worker. I think she would be a good friend to others and I think she would have had a happy life if she were still alive," said Bounds.
For twenty-one years, Taylor's death remained a mystery.
Now, investigators say they're coming very close to solving the case.
"Part of it has to do with a new set of eyes looking at it and taking a different perspective on it, and just picking the case back up and working it," said Major Don Carter of the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office.
Major Carter says they have a person of interest in mind, but want to make sure the case is airtight before making an arrest.
"I'm very happy that we're close to knowing, and that the person that did that horrible thing is close to be taken care of," said Bounds.

They are also looking for any living members of the victim's family to tell them they have not forgotten Veronica Taylor.
