Tech Baseball Take Series From Cal St. Northridge

LUBBOCK, Texas - Aaron Odom set a new career high with eight strikeouts
and scattered one run on six hits over seven innings to lead Texas Tech
to a 10-5 series clinching win over Cal State Northridge on Sunday
afternoon at Dan Law Field.
The win gives Texas Tech the three-game series 2-1 and the Red Raiders
now stand at 12-5 on the season. The loss drops Cal State Northridge to
11-9 on the year.
Aaron Odom (3-0) turned in his second-straight solid outing for the Red
Raiders as he held Cal State Northridge to just one run on six hits over
seven innings of work. His eight strikeouts in the game surpassed his
career high of six set last season against Missouri.
The Red Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the third inning
when Roger Kieschnick belted a solo home run to left field. The home
run was his sixth of the season and it gave the Red Raiders a lead they
would not relinquish.
A pair of defensive miscues by Cal State Northridge in the bottom of the
fourth led to four Texas Tech runs as the Red Raiders grabbed a 6-1
lead. Taylor Ashby laced an RBI double in the inning while Chris Hall
and Kieschnick added RBI singles.
Tech added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to go ahead
10-1.
Willie Rueda`s fielding miscue in the eighth, the first of the game for
Tech, helped jumpstart a three-run inning for Cal State Northridge.
Joey Kenworthy made his first appearance on the mound this season in
relief of Odom but wasn`t able to record an out in four at-bats and was
quickly replaced by Travis Young. Young completed the final two innings
of the game and gave up one run on two hits.
Chuckie Fick (0-3) was charged with the loss for Cal State Northridge as
he gave up six runs (just one earned) on four hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Roger Kieschnick paced the Tech offense as he went 3-for-4 with three
RBI and two runs scored and was a double away from the cycle.
Texas Tech returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Red Raiders
open up a two-game midweek series against the UNLV Rebels. First pitch
on Tuesday is set for 6:30 p.m. while Wednesday`s game is scheduled for
3 p.m.
