Hot temperatures are testing the limits of the electric companies.  Lubbock Power and Light officials say that between 3 and 6 o'clock, meters go wild with people turning on the A-C, and with the high demand it can really stress their system.

Chris Sims with Lubbock Power and Light says it is possible for too much power usage across the city to cause a mass power outage.  But they keep a close eye to make sure that doesn't happen.  Sims also has a few tips to keep city usage and your bill down.

"We're really stressing conservation as much as we can.  Simple things like changing your air filters every three months...Checking them every month on your air conditioning system.  Making sure that they're clean, reliable and that air can move through them.  Setting your thermastat to 78 degrees and using ceiling fans..."

Sims also suggests checking your air conditioner outside to make sure there isn't debris or shrubs blocking the flow of air.
