A hit and run crash in Central Lubbock leaves a 49-year-old Lubbock woman dead and police searching for the suspect vehicle.

"Nobody deserves what happened to her to happen to her.  Nobody."

Brenda Town says her mother-in-law, 49-year-old Gloria Benson, was a happy woman, always smiling, despite the hard life she was dealt.

"She was always laughing.  And she basically to this day was homeless."

Tuesday night, her life ended on those streets.  Benson was walking with her boyfriend Charles McDade.  Police initially arrested McDade with suspicions that he'd pushed her in front of a car, but he has since been released after investigators ruled out homicide.  Now, the investigation turns to find out who was behind the wheel of the SUV that took Benson's life.

"We are hoping to locate that vehicle and find the people who were driving or riding in the vehicle so we'll be able to interview those folks."
