Juniors Roger Kieschnick and Zach Stewart were both selected in the third round of today’s Major League Baseball Amateur Draft that was being held in Orlando, Fla.

Roger Kieschnick, a junior outfielder from Rockwall, was the first Red Raider taken in today’s draft as he was selected by the San Francisco Giants as the 82nd overall pick in the third round.  Kieshnick was a preseason All-American in 2008 and ended the season with a .305 average through 55 games and led the squad with 15 doubles, 17 home runs and 65 RBIs.  In his three-year career at Tech, he has posted a .322 average while ranking in the top five in several career offensive categories including; at-bats (689), hits (222), doubles (54), home runs (39) and RBIs (156).

Zach Stewart, a junior right-hander from Wichita Falls, was taken two picks later at No. 84 by the Cincinnati Reds.  Stewart transferred to the Red Raiders in 2008 from North Central Texas College and quickly became the top hurler on staff.  He finished the season with a 3-2 record with three saves and 4.98 ERA while logging 47 innings of work including three starts and 17 relief appearances.
