Bottle Rockets Banned

After a short discussion Monday morning, the Lubbock County Commissioners implemented a ban on bottle rockets. Reasons for the ban include dry weather and possible damage to cotton crops.
"That's a danger we really have here in Lubbock County," said Lubbock County official John Grace. "Our economy relies on the cotton industry, and the cotton industry is kind of the area where people tend to shoot off fireworks."
According to Grace, bottle rockets continue to burn after they explode. The burning projectile then lands on the ground and can light the surrounding area on fire.
Mortars and other fireworks will still be for sale. They are not believed to be as serious a threat.
