Updated: June 11, 2008

Lubbock, TX Texas Tech head coach Pat Knight announced the Red Raider 2008-2009 non-conference schedule today. The fifteen game non-conference schedule includes ten home games and five away games.

The Red Raiders open their 2008-2009 campaign against the Red Flash of Saint Francis University of Loretto, Pennsylvania and new head coach Don Friday on Friday, November 14. On November 17, the Raiders host the Bearkats of Sam Houston State University at the United Spirit Arena.

The Raiders make their first appearance in the Legends Classic as they host two games at the United Spirit Arena on November 20 and 22 and then play two games at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on November 28 and 29.

Twelve teams compete in this early-season event, hosted at on-campus arenas throughout the country. Four of college basketball’s top teams from the nation’s most prestigious conferences tip off the 2008-2009 season with opening round games on their home courts before going to the New York metropolitan area to face each other for the Legends Classic tournament championship at the new Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Host sites for the Legends Classic were selected from highly ranked programs in some of the nation’s top conferences, creating the potential for the season’s best match-ups during the championship rounds. In its first year, the event attracted more than 90,000 fans across five different venues.

Between the second round of the Legends Classic at the United Spirit Arena and playing in the Prudential Center in Newark, the Red Raiders host the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana on November 25. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

The Shockers of Wichita State visit the United Spirit Arena on Wednesday, December 3. The Red Raiders and the Shockers last met in 1966.

Texas Tech is on the road for two games as they face the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday, December 13 in Beaumont, Texas and the UTEP Miners in El Paso on Wednesday, December 17.

The Red Raiders are home for two games in hosting the Lobos of New Mexico on Saturday, December 20 and the Centenary Gents on Tuesday, December 23.

The final road game of the 2008-2009 non-conference schedule finds the Red Raiders visiting Stanford on Sunday, December 28

The Red Raiders close out the non-conference portion of their 2008-2009 schedule with two home games. The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin are in the United Spirit Arena on January 1 and the TCU Horned Frogs are the final non-conference opponent for the Red Raiders on Tuesday, January 6.
