Lubbock, Texas (June 17, 2008) – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Lubbock Christian University softball head coach Shanon Hays as the 2008 NAIA Softball Coach of the Year.

The award is voted on by the NAIA's softball coaches, and eligible award-winners include region coaches of the year and head coaches of quarterfinalists at the NAIA Championship Tournament.  Hays, who recently guided the inaugural program to a national title, completed his first season of coaching softball and coaching a women’s program.  The Lady Chaps finished with a 60-10 record and completed a season full of memories by winning three consecutive games on the final day of the national tournament to become the third NAIA team ever to claim the title by coming out of the loser’s bracket.

The honor is the first time a Lubbock Christian head coach has received Coach of the Year honors since Darrell Price received the accolade coaching Cross Country.
