BABYINCAR-VO.transfer2008-07-02-1215055231.jpgA mother is in jail tonight after leaving her one-month-old child in the car while she shopped for groceries. Twenty-one year-old Andrea Rodriguez went grocery shopping at Market Street around 6:30 last night. She left her baby in a car with the windows rolled up and the doors unlocked. Police spent 40 minutes trying to find the mother and grandmother in the grocery store. Rodriguez told police she forgot her son was in the car with her. Sgt. Ross Hester says, "the child was very red, the babys skin was hot to the touch. The baby was suffering the onset of heat exposure." The child was taken to UMC. The mother faces a second degree felony charge. If convicted she could face two to 20 years in prison and a fine.
