A local man worked closely and was friends with one of the three American hostages freed from the grasps of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia or FARC, a communist terror group.

Over the past five years, Brian Morris of Lubbock has kept contact with the family of Marc Gonsalves.

He says the release of Gonsalves and the hostage is a relief from the years of dismal frustration.

"I did a dance," said Morris. "I did a dance in my living room."

Morris says hope was a hard thing to hold on to.

Morris worked for the military with Gonsalves and knew of the FARC's brutal tactics.

Morris believes Gonsalves and the other Americans were being kept alive by the FARC as bargaining chips.
