The investigation continues into allegations of a sexual relationship between a former educator and his student. These allegations surfaced five years after the incidents reportedly began. A former Lubbock-Cooper student accuses the then athletic trainer Patrick Brown of a sexual relationhip starting when she was 16 in 2003. The accuser says she only brought up the charges now because a counselor ecouraged her to get the incidents out in the open. Counselors here in Lubbock say it can take victims a long time to come forward with assaults because the victims feel guilty, but they say its never the victims fault and they should always come forward. "Many underage teenagers may think that they brought that on themselves, but thats not the case at all. Adults are responsible for their behavior, and theyre responsible to know right from wrong and its not your fault, says Roy Rios with Womens Protective Services. Womens Protective Services and the Rape Crisis Center provide free, confidential counseling to victims and families dealing with sexual assualt.
